Greenland’s Minerals: Trump vs. Reality
With lots of time for reading and research on my hands, here’s my take on Trump’s wet dream for acquiring Greenland. Trump’s Points - Some Counter Points Greenland has vast, rare earth mineral deposits that will make Greenlanders and the USA rich. While Greenland likely contains significant resources, 80% of the landmass remains geologically unassessed due to ice coverage. Review the data on the Greenland Mineral Resources webpage . Current quantitative data comes only from a

Arizona's High Country
We spent several wonderful days exploring Arizona's high country around Cottonwood, Sedona, and Jerome. The weather was perfect for fishing, hiking, and rockhounding, and we even managed to enjoy a picnic-style Thanksgiving celebration surrounded by the stunning red rocks. Our time in Arizona wasn't without its challenges—Lola had a brief health scare that required a quick detour for veterinary care (she's doing fine now!), and we faced some surprisingly harsh weather as we h

Taos Pubelo - 1000 Years Still Going Strong
Oldest Settlement in North America - Taos Pubelo Taos Pueblo near Taos, New Mexico—a living community that's been continuously inhabited for over a thousand years. These adobe structures stand as the oldest continuously inhabited communities in all of North America. Walking these ancient pathways and stepping inside the pueblo dwellings was a humbling experience. We were surrounded by the same sights and smells that people experienced here centuries before Columbus ever saile

Discovering Invasive Asiatic Clams on the Verde River in Cottonwood AZ
Asiatic Clams As we walked along the banks of the Verde River near Cottonwood, AZ we were astonished to find clam shells! Not something one would expect to see in the Verde Valley and the Black Hills of north - central Arizona. Apparently these are the Asiatic clam (Corbicula fluminea), an invasive species, first noted in the 1950s. Clam-digging is a favorite tasty pastime of the local Cambodian and Vietnamese population, particularly on weekend family picnic outings. They ar

The Epstein Sideshow: Political Theater While Crises Mount
November 18, 2025 The legislation to release the Epstein files is political theater—a carefully orchestrated distraction by the current administration designed to divert public attention from pressing economic failures and escalating foreign policy crises, including U.S. warships deployed in the Caribbean and armed confrontations with drug cartels. Major news outlets like CNN, Reuters, CBS, and NBC have predictably taken the bait, focusing obsessively on the Epstein spectacle

Las Vegas - Fremont St. Experience
Risky Venture heads to Hoover Dam, but we decide to "camp" in Las Vegas and tour the Fremont St. Experience. The main attraction of Fremont Street is the barrel vault canopy, 90 ft (27 m) high at the peak and four blocks, or about 1,375 ft (419 m), in length. The canopy, comprising 130,000 square feet of display space is the world's largest video screen. More than 12 million LED lamps illuminate the overhead canopy. It's a fun, awesome jaw-dropping experience. Fremont St. Ex
