Greetings again from Risky Venture. Our third day of winter camping took us northwest from the NH coast to the Friendly Beaver Campground.

This is Sunday evening December 1st. This stop was intentional, aimed at gaining more cold-weather RV camping experience. The campground, located in rural Hillsborough County—a region with a population of about 6,500—is known for its diverse wildlife, including deer, moose, black bears, bobcats, coyotes, and beavers. The campground's year-round heated indoor pool was an unexpected bonus.

On this night temperatures dropped into the low 20s, but we remained comfortable using only the electric hookup, onboard water, and the coach's propane heating system. As an extra precaution, we ran the tank heaters on Sunday night. By 8:30 the next morning, we had dumped the tanks and were on the road, heading directly to JFK airport—New York's busiest airport! The journey took just under six hours, including stops for brunch and fuel.

After bidding farewell to our son's girlfriend at JFK, we continued to our home base on Long Island's North Fork.

Trip Highlights:

  • Total duration: Five nights

  • No water line issues

  • No holding tank problems

  • Consistent cozy temperatures throughout the RV

  • Propane consumption: Almost a full tank over five days, including refrigeration when not on shore power
