A Day at the Laundromat!

This may sound silly but when you’re camping you still need to do laundry. We have been in the camper for a week and a half so the laundry was building up and we have to transport on a motorcycle so getting to a laundromat was essential!
We have discovered that the laundry facilities at campgrounds are usually crap. They may exist but they usually have broken down machines or are not maintained. Therefore, even though we are at a KOA and they advertise laundry facilities the door to the laundry area said “CLOSED, SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE” Well, that is very inconvenient since the laundromats at the previous two campgrounds were also out of business!
Anyway, we gathered our dirty laundry together and packed it into the two side trunks of our motorcycle and off we went, quarters and detergent in hand. We found the local laundromat and loaded our laundry into washers only to discover our quarters don’t work here!! We’re in Canada! So off to the bank went Hal only to discover he forgot his wallet at the campsite. Back he returned to the laundromat. He grabbed my credit card and finally we had the correct money for the machine. The machine cashed paper money for Canadian coins, dollars and Canadian quarters!! Here one load of laundry is $5.00!! Wow, I will appreciate my washer and dryer more now!!
In went the wash and we walked around the little town of Gananoque and found a Mediterranean restaurant. We ordered two Greek salads. Lola was along for the ride so she sat at our feet and sipped some cool water.
Now the dryer experience. The dryers take Canadian quarters. Thankfully there was a machine that cashed dollars into quarters. But you only get 4 minutes dryer time for one quarter! So here I am feeding three different machines quarters and not getting very many dry clothes. Meanwhile, Hal is walking around town and found a gluten free bakery. He bought us some drinks and some delicious gluten free brownies. Meanwhile, Lola acted as if she owned the laundromat and then fell asleep on the cool cement floor in between laundry baskets. What a life!!

In the end we ended up with clean laundry, a delicious lunch and even some great brownies for dessert tonight. Not a bad day after all. Oh and by the way the views of the St. Lawrence River to and from the laundromat were spectacular! It reminds me of the coast of Maine with green foliage next to pink granite rocks!
Now that’s a start to adventures 😅
